Step by step
Four steps, and what happens at each one.
- 1
Answer a few questions.
Where you file, the tax year, and what kind of income you have. It takes a few minutes.
Each country and tax year becomes its own return. The questions save as you go: a section about your year, one for each kind of income, and a short checklist at the end.
- 2
Meet your accountant.
Handy matches you with one licensed accountant. Before you agree to anything, you see who they are, their credentials and their full price, including GST or VAT. Nothing is charged unless you accept their terms.
First you check the work your answers point to, and add preferences if you like: a budget, languages, years in practice. All of them are optional. When you start matching, you get an answer straight away.
- 3
Accept their terms and add your card.
Your card is held when you accept. It's charged when your accountant confirms your return, or 12 hours after the match, so if either has already happened, it's charged straight away.
- 4
Work together until it's done.
Your accountant asks for what they need as tasks, prepares your return, and sends you a draft to approve. Once you approve it and sign the declaration, they file or lodge it. Documents, messages and payment all stay in Handy, ready for next year.
Data collectionYour tasks open once your card is held. Upload what your accountant asks for, and message them in Handy.
Review and classificationYour accountant checks what you've shared. If something's missing, a task comes back to you.
Filing and submissionYou read the return, approve it and sign. Then it's filed with HMRC or lodged with the ATO.
Who does what
Your accountant does the tax work. Handy does the rest.
Your accountant
Prepares your return, advises you, and files or lodges it. They're your accountant, under their professional rules.
Handy
Matches you, gives you both the workspace, and handles the payment on your accountant's own Stripe account. Handy doesn't give tax advice.
If something changes
Nothing changes without you.
More work than expected
Your accountant proposes a new price in Handy, and you decide.
Less work than expected
The difference comes back to you in full.
You want to cancel
Before your card is charged, nothing is taken. After that, contact Handy support.
